Iron Deficiency Linked to Sleep & Focus Issues
Did you know there is a link between low iron levels and sleep issues AND mental focus? Have you had your iron levels or your children’s iron levels checked recently? It requires blood draw, which is not easy or fun with children. I discovered that my children had low iron levels when they had sleep issues and gave them iron supplements and iron rich food to boost their iron levels. I recently found out that it also affects ADHD severity and focus.
Lucky Iron Fish is a product I found on my own that I really like. There are similar products on Amazon that are slightly cheaper I’ll post links for on the resource and Sleep Disorder Resource page also. You can add these iron fish to infuse food or water with iron. It is difficult to eat enough food that has iron unless you eat liver or blood, which many adults and kids have a difficult time eating or find appealing to eat. It’s also helpful to eat these with orange juice or something acidic and not eat anything with dairy or starch as these would block the body’s absorption of the iron.
Low iron levels can be a cause of sleep disruption and low focus issues. It’s “low hanging fruit” and something parents can easily check for if you or your kids are having issues with sleep or focus. There are iron products and supplements to help and if you are savvy about how you use and take them to maximize the efficacy of the absorption into the body, you can boost the iron levels to a healthy level the next time the blood draw is done and the sleep and focus will be noticeably improved as well, I hope!
