Elder Care

It is challenging to embrace the realization that we have become the person upon whom elders may depend on more when they need help as they age and face certain health issues and difficulties.

This section covers my experiences in these areas with elderly relatives. As we mature, we go from being young adults to having increasing responsibilities, not only for our own children in our families, but also for our parents and the older generation as their health challenges and needs increase as they age. My mother phrased it as the sunset phase as the baton is passed from one generation to another and the middle generation becomes the “sandwich.” Raising the next generation of children and helping the older generation in decline as we all age and face the inevitable truth of time and mortality.
