Veronica's Journey
Veronica is on a mission to break the stigma surrounding autism and misconception about neurodivergence. Her journey began with the twin diagnoses of her children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Despite facing challenges and invalidation from others, Veronica remains steadfast in her commitment to her children and their truth.
Challenges and Triumphs
Veronica's path has not been easy as she has encountered skepticism and denial from family and those who don't understand and/or fear the stigma of autism or neurodivergence. Despite this, Veronica remains resolute in her mission to educate and advocate for her children and others facing similar challenges.
The Drive for Change
Motivated by her experiences, Veronica launched her website, divergentsandwich.com, to challenge misconceptions about autism and provide support to families. She is determined to break the stigma and stereotypes and believes that understanding and acceptance are key to breaking down barriers.
Transitioning Back to Career
For the past 7 years, Veronica has been a homemaker, dedicating herself to her family. Recent events have reshaped her career path as an attorney. Her son was diagnosed with Periodic Limb Movement Disorder and ADHD during the pandemic. Discovering that both her children are on the spectrum was a turning point of reflection and soul searching.
Sharing Her Knowledge
Veronica's daughter started kindergarten in August 2024, and she's transitioning back into a legal career. A pivot into Special Education Law, leverages her experiences advocating for her children in the medical and educational systems. She is dedicated to helping families navigate these challenges, and eager to share her knowledge, insights, and experiences.
Navigating the System
Veronica has faced personal challenges and dealt with systemic hurdles. She has fought for her children's rights, including advocating for and securing external authorization for evaluations/assessments. Despite these challenges, Veronica remains determined to ensure her children receive the support they need when they need it.
